FLYING TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN

           Icarus flew.

           Before he fell to his death, he achieved the impossible. Icarus was able to fly among the birds. A brief moment of freedom ended in tragedy.

 

The Sun

The Sun radiates warmth, optimism, and positivity. This card provides the strength needed for success. The Sun is a sign that things are going to get better, and everything will work out exactly as it needs to be.

 

           Daedalus was a talented inventor in Crete, always building something for King Minos. He built the labyrinth to hold the minotaur, who was the son of the King’s wife. The King then sent young men and women to be fed to the minotaur.

Judgement

Judgement appears when a life-changing decision must be made. The puzzle pieces are finally fitting together, and it is time to reflect on the past. Reaching full potential is possible and breaking old cycles of self-criticism is in grasp.

           The inventor advised Ariadne, daughter of King Minos, to give string to Theseus from Athens so he could kill the minotaur and escape the labyrinth. This treacherous act got him and his son, Icarus, locked away in a tower.

 

 

The Lovers

The Lovers represent decisions within relationships. Existing relationships, choices, and temptations may be explored when this card comes up. Vulnerability and honesty are very important when making decisions are involved. There are always consequences when standing at a crossroads.

The High Priestess

The High Priestess represents the threshold between the conscious and subconscious. When she appears, it means to look deep within for enlightment and knowledge. Intuition is at its highest; the answers were inside all along.

 

           Daedalus knew that he and his son could not stay imprisoned forever. He invented wings made of beeswax, feathers, and threads for Icarus and himself to escape the tower.

Wheel of Fortune

The Wheel of Fortune is a reminder that what goes around comes around and whatever energy is sent into the universe will be sent back. This card represents the things that cannot be changed and the go with the flow attitude needed to make it through tough situations.

           The feeling of flying amazed Icarus. The young boy got carried away. He ignored the warnings from Daedalus and flew higher and higher, the wax slowly melting with each moment passing.

The Fool

The Fool shows up when it is time to take a leap of faith and follow the heart. This card is a reminder to put away any worries or doubts and just relax and have fun. The inner child is reaching for the surface and wants to explore its curiosity.

           Soon enough, the feathers were falling off of Icarus’ brooding wings and he plummeted into the sea, where he drowned.

           Before escaping, Daedalus warned Icarus that he should not fly too close to the sun, as the sun would destroy his wings and he would not survive.

 

Death

The Death card is ironically one of the most positive cards in the tarot deck. This card represents transformation and change. New opportunities are available if willing to take a chance on them. Letting go of the past is the only way to make room for the future.
